At a friend's house for Thanksgiving, we watched Monster's Ball, and then today Jenny and I went to see the new Bond movie. So many Halle Berry sex scenes! My God!

For so long, the little black cat has toppled every cup we've left on the floor (or table, bookshelf, etc) unsupervised, trying his best to tip the cup and sip from the edge, just like a regular human.
Jenny and I found him yesterday, drinking from the mug, that he'd tipped over so delicately, and rested on its handle. What a smart little cat! He just re-invented the tippy-cup.

Following up on Kate's Sims blog:
Now open your eyes: you've just invented the most popular computer game of all time. It's called The Sims (short for simulation), and the premise is simple. You control an ordinary suburban family. You make them dinner at night and send them to work in the morning. You turn on the TV when they're bored and put them to bed when they're tired. Since it debuted in 2000, The Sims has sold 8 million copies in 17 languages and has inspired a devoted fan following. It's also one of the rare computer games played by more women than men.

NEW STAR TREK TRAILER
update: it appears iFilm has TAKEN DOWN the trailer before I got to see it! (I tried to load it, but it was too slow.)
update #2: iFilm apologizes for the delays, they're "fixing the dilithium crystals or something." knuckleheads! The QT will be on my iPod tomorrow though (we DID manage to watch it, and it's incredible), so maybe I'll make my way to mr?

Kate - would you consider having a blog where you publish your Newsweek-watching every week? I think it would get a lot of attention. They might be interested in that article over at game girl advance (gga sims post here).
Jessamyn's abada abada has been updated.

Newsweek has a big article about the Sims game and online gaming, and has a bunch of pictures of people talking about their gaming habits, and how they went to Everquest festivals. Not one single picture in the entire article includes a woman. What about equal representation of gender in the media?

When the telnet window opens, for the leo catalog, just type any password at the prompt. Nothing will work, but you'll get another prompt for the login. Type "leo" as the login and you won't need a password. You'll then be able to search the online catalog using telnet.
It's true-- you can reserve DVDs and VHS tapes from home, but beware-- it'll take forever to get something new! Probably there are a tons of users who have already put holds on the items, especially the popular items. If you're looking for Party Girl or the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, you're in luck. Both of those usually arrive quickly.
David-- you got vampire! That's so cool! Are you Spike or Angel? Or maybe another one?

Also:
Final Vinyl Beta 7 is out. Using the Griffin iMic, you can easily convert LPs to iTunes. You can actually hook up your pre-amp turntable straight to your Powerbook. From the manual: If you are unclear what an "RIAA Curve" is, either leave it alone, or Google "RIAA Curve" for more information. Wouldn't Bray care, too?
Oops! I meant these comments by Anil, but the other ones are good too. Librarians! How do I get a password to nyplgate.nypl.org? Nyplgate sounds like something dirty, are nipples causing scandals?

I sent Jenny into uncontrollable fits of laughter yesterday:
Someone on TV or something said something about a zeppelin...
Kate: Is zeppelin a real word?
Jenny: Of course
Kate: huh?
Jenny: It's like a blimp-- you know -- Led Zeppelin -- you never got that?
Kate: Led Zeppelin really means Heavy Dirigible?
Jenny-- laughing and laughing and trying to say "Heavy Dirigible" but not getting the entire word out, and that just makes her laugh even more.

allaboutgeorge.com has a great link to a Buffy quiz: Which Buffy archetype are you? I got categorized as a Watcher.
Speaking of Buffy... last week's episode was amazing! I was on the edge of my seat as little Dawn cast demons from her house. She was quite cool. And what's up with Spike? Soul? Chip? He can sire vamps again?
Jenny and I tried to see Harry Potter tonight, but all the shows all over NYC were sold out until 11pm. We bought tickets for a show on Sunday afternoon, and had Japanese food for dinner tonight. Got a little drunk from Sake.
Great news: 4 entire days have passed and the cats have both used their litter boxes. One of them spit Meow Mix all over the floor, but that might have just been because one snuck up while the other was eating.

Maybe I think that Madonna's lyrics are deeper than they are, but I've been listening to "Die Another Day" - the song from the new Bond movie - and she keeps saying all of these things like "Sigmund Freud, analyze this" and "I'm gonna destroy my ego" and "I'm gonna close my body now" and "I'm gonna delay my pleasure" and I thought of some obscure literary reference to orgasms as "the little death" in French. Do you see what I'm getting at here? It's like when my friend Clarissa told me how Cyndi Lauper's "She-Bop" was all about female masturbation.

The yoga instructor today was not so sensitive about women's issues, like how it hurts to do those poses where you grind your hip bones into the floor. He also had us do this thing where we sat in lotus and popped up into the air by pushing our fists into the floor. When you land, you'd better have a very supportive sports bra. Maybe I'll just stick with female instructors.
The cat continues to pee on the floor in the bathroom, right next to the litter box.

When you search google for "8 inches," iPalimpsest is on the first page of results. When you search google for "palimpsest," you have to look through pages of results before you find our page. There's no method, only madness.
I bought new toothbrushes for Jenny and I today. Mine is orange. Jenny's is lime green.

On the Thursday before the marathon, my mindset was grim, and I bought The Sims Vacation expansion Pack, because what if I lived my entire life without having ever sent my Sims family on vacation?
Also, I took this Yoga class at Crunch, and the instructor said to always commit to a decision. Maybe later you'll realize the decision wasn't the best, but you should always go with your intuition, and not vacillate. And my intuition told me to spend money on this game, and devote hours and hours to playing.
To enrich the experience, I started to cheat. Waiting for Sims to amass money on their own is boring. So, I've been having the best time. My Sims go on vacation all the time, and buy whatever they want, and they have a pool and a moat and an entire room full of arcade games.

Adriana found this great book about java programming written by Sarah Michelle Geller. Seems to have gotten great reviews, though I would have thought Allison Hannigan a more authoritative author. Maybe Allison was too busy writing about band camp . . . .
