I must be feeling really nostalgic or something after that Burger Time download. I found this great site that has old time candy. I forgot a lot of it existed, and even though I have no real need for hot dog cinnamon bubble gum, it's nice to know that it's still out there.

I spent part of today playing Burgerspace at work. I have a vague recollection of this game from my youth - it can be very addictive. I should have added it to my Atari shrine

Jenny and I went running in Inwood park this morning and much to my suprise, I saw this blue flash in a flock of sparrows. It was that parakeet Jenny saw a few weeks ago. It seems completely integrated into the flock of sparrows.
I wonder if we set free an entire pet store's worth of parakeets, would the park be full of blue streaks in sparrow groups? Would the parakeets create their own flocks and compete with the sparrows for food?
I asked Jenny if she thought the parakeet would fly south for the winter, with the sparrows. She said probably, as she didn't think it had other plans.

Today was New York is Book Country, working at the NYPL booth. Jim Lee was there signing autographs for his NY Is Book Country Poster.
Last weekend we went to maskers farms to pick apples.

Get married in Canada on October 17. Of course, the US won't recognize the marriage. A US airport wouldn't accept this family's customs form, and the Canadian couple decided to not continue with their plans to visit the US.

Popular Science has a list of the Worst Jobs in Science. And they say being an English major sucks. I thought the only cow fistula feeders were on Ripley's. Ew.

It looks like the video billboard on Broadway and 86th might be more than just an annoying LCD screen, it might be a new technology called digital ink. Whatever. It uses less energy and gives a sharper picture, it's still annoying. Must all of New York turn into Times Square?

I saw this interesting bird in Inwood Hill Park when I was walking home yesterday. It was a strange shade of blue, so I looked closely, thinking it might be a blue jay. It was a parakeet and this cool teal shade. I started thinking "the poor parakeet! It won't survive in the wild" when a flock of sparrows swooped down and it joined up with them, like it had always been a sparrow. I wonder if it will have babies and they'll be sparrowkeets?

So, the Xeric foundation (the comic book grant) rejected our submission because we didn't have a financial statement from both creators. I contacted them and tried to tell them that it was purposeful - that our finances are combined and that there was no left out information, but they just said to resubmit for the next round. Oh well. It's incredibly sucky, but I guess it gives us time to make Cashew better and reminded me once again of how important it is to fill out forms to the letter. My parents are taking Gina the cat. I think she'll be happier. She really doesn't get along with our cats. She scratched Zoe's paw pad, gave her an infection and she had to take antibiotics for a week. Gina's so afraid of both of them (even Mel, who wouldn't hurt anyone!) that she hasn't moved from the bed since we got her, except to eat and use the litter box. I'll miss her, but I think it's good for my parents to have a pet again, and certainly good for Gina to not live on the streets anymore or have to fight with our cats.

Apparently we did learn something after all from all the drama with Gina's (false) pregnancy. Kate read this article today and decided that "people are like cats".
She says "For example, fraternal twins can be conceived days apart, if a woman releases eggs on different days during the same menstrual cycle. Even more dramatic, some women who are pregnant ovulate during their pregnancy and get pregnant with a second baby, then deliver full-term infants at different times, or deliver one full-term and one premature baby at the same time.
That’s what happens when identical twins marry identical twins and have children. Their nieces and nephews are, genetically, their own kids.
So-- women who release multiple eggs during their menstraul cycles could have the eggs fertilized by different men -- twins born to humans could have different fathers, even though they're twins-- just like cats"
