Animal rights game for Playstation 2
Author Max Barry ("Syrup", "Jennifer Government") has taken up running. His observations about it made me laugh, especially the part about vowing never to wear those tiny running shorts with the slits up the sides, "no matter how well-ventilated they are".
Playing Leisure Suit Larry.

I took a tour of the Sony Wonder technology lab today. They have a really nice public space for eating your lunch, and a cute little cafe. Outside, you're greeted by their telepresence robot. Later in the tour, however, you see the man behind the machine and realize that it's all a fake out, equivalent to the Ripley's Believe it or Not museum's two-way mirror. It's a free museum, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but the exhibits were pretty lame. You have to use a bar-coded card throughout the place and at the end you get a certificate of the exhibits you've "completed" (like their Sony Playstation games). This really threw me, since we also give out certificates at the library for completion of the technology training courses. There's some educational value to some of the exhibits, but overall, it seems as though what they're really training you in is Sony consumerism. As you come out, the exhibit feeds right into the Sony store.
In the spirit of Carrie's campaign for Kerry and Cthulthu for president, why not Picard/Riker or Kirk/Spock in '04? BTW, that "Hug your Mugato" tee is pretty hot.
Library Patron #1: I used to take classes on COBOL.
Library Patron #2: Isn't that dangerous?
[I think that Patron #2 thought they meant cobalt, which according to this site, is a component of B12, which can be found in Marmite/Vegemite spread and presumably, is not dangerous.]
Best cat litter ever. I was shocked to find out that clay litters aren't biodegradable, are carcinogens, can cause urinary tract problems in cats, and can cause respiratory problems in humans and cats. I had noticed that they track the scoopable-clay litter all over the bathroom, and sometimes I feel like I'm spending many hours scrubbing dust and clay off the bathroom floors.
Swheat scoop rules. No more dust. They hardly track any of it anywhere. It smells fine (a little like wet bread, actually), and it clumps pretty well. It's more expensive than the clumping clay we used to get, but it's so much better. I spend so much less time cleaning (and inhaling litter dust). They also make clumping litter from corn, but that's even more expensive than the wheat litter.

A few weekends ago a renaissance festival came to Fort Tryon Park, on the lawn in front of the Cloisters Museum (A train to 190th street, in Manhattan), with jousting, pickles in a wheelbarrow, people dressed in medieval costumes and a human chess game on a giant chess board. It's one of the best reasons to visit uptown!
Anyone who has a pet should read this.
