I took a tour of the Sony Wonder technology lab today. They have a really nice public space for eating your lunch, and a cute little cafe. Outside, you're greeted by their telepresence robot. Later in the tour, however, you see the man behind the machine and realize that it's all a fake out, equivalent to the Ripley's Believe it or Not museum's two-way mirror. It's a free museum, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised, but the exhibits were pretty lame. You have to use a bar-coded card throughout the place and at the end you get a certificate of the exhibits you've "completed" (like their Sony Playstation games). This really threw me, since we also give out certificates at the library for completion of the technology training courses. There's some educational value to some of the exhibits, but overall, it seems as though what they're really training you in is Sony consumerism. As you come out, the exhibit feeds right into the Sony store.

Do they actually feature products you can buy or is it all futuristic stuff?

They have a Sonystyle store with consumer electronics.

Was there anything tempting or was it all just ridiculous?

Mostly ridiculous, although the public space and the sonystyle store's television display (downstairs) were pretty nice.

That place was so awesome. That B.B. wonederbot was so cool. The the displays are very nice and the activities are awesome!!!!!
